Hey! Hello! I’m in a bit of state because guess what? My big sister had a baby last week!!!! It’s the greatest, coolest, best thing that’s ever happened. I am so privileged to be her sister and his auntie. It’s all a little weird though since yesterday my sister and I were running to school like this:
Congratulations!! My go tos for new babies are The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton (really all things Sandra Boynton) and Guess How Much I Love You? by Sam McBratney!
Yay! Board books are great. There are also books called Indestructibles, which are wonderful for tiny hands and are full of bright colors and fun pictures. Here are some of my personal favs: The Giving Tree, Goodnight Moon, any of the Llama, Llama books, any Eric Carle, The Rainbow Fish, anything Richard Scarry, Pete the Cat books, the Pigeon series, the David series, Heather has Two Mommies, anything Patricia Polacco, Jack (Not Jackie), Not Quite Narwhal, Red, Sparkle Boy. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but that's a start!
This was so lovely to read. When my son was an infant, I read him gobs of poetry. I wanted him to hear my voice and I didn’t really know what to say, and a part of me hoped (hopes) him hearing poetry first might impact his way of thinking in childhood and adulthood.
Congratulations!! Being an aunt is one of the greatest joys in my life so welcome to the club!!
In regard to books, I def second what was stated above but some really sweet books are the I am series by Susan Verde. There is I am Human, I am Love, I am Peace and a few more.
You are already a great aunt, this is one thing you do not need a book for, silly. You are a natural, and that kid is SET. Also, baby Rosamond! Run towards the books!
YES to all Boynton books!! I’ll add that my youngest child’s absolute fave that we checked out from the library and finally had to buy was “Flip Flap Fly” by Phyllis Root. My favorite picture book that was gifted to us and that I love to gift to new families is “All the World” by Liz Garton Scanlon. Also, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has recently expanded to Alabama. Families can enroll and receive a book a month from birth to kindergarten. These are high-quality books, classics and contemporary titles. I highly recommend it and have two teen readers of my own who grew up loving “Dolly’s books.”
Congratulations! My kids absolute favorite book is Big Little from PerlaAnne on Etsy. The block cut prints are charming and black and white contrast is good for little eyes! I like the rhyming too.

awww Guess How Much I Love You? - what a classic!
Start with board books, ready to be babe-handled and chewed. Boynton offers bright colors and silly rhymes. See Barnyard Dance. ❤️❤️❤️
oh yes I love this!! Sandra Boynton is so good!!
