Hey! Hello!
I’m in a bit of state because guess what? My big sister had a baby last week!!!! It’s the greatest, coolest, best thing that’s ever happened. I am so privileged to be her sister and his auntie.
It’s all a little weird though since yesterday my sister and I were running to school like this:
Time! What a weirdo.
Rebecca and I got to travel to meet our nephew and it was all a blessing beyond measure.
Now if you know me or my sister or really anyone in our family, you already know this little man is going to have a *stocked* library.
But it’s got me thinking, what books do you think are essential for a brand spanking new human these days? What are the classics? The modern classics? The overlooked gems? Please tell me in comments!
And while I am at it - anyone know any great books about aunts?? Books for kids about how cool aunties are (pandering lol) or books for grown ups about how to be a good aunt? I need your recommendations.
To absolutely no one’s surprise we made a stop at the local bookstore while we were in town. Shout out to The New South Bookstore in Montgomery, Alabama! You’ve got to go. New and used books, incredible selection of books related to the Civil Rights history of the area. Simply a can’t miss. Everything a good indie bookstore should be.
My eye was drawn to the banned books display in the kids’ section from which I picked up And Tango Makes Three …… um guys how come no one told me about this book?!?
Love is real and possible and I know because I read this book. Also because I have a new nephew and the miracle of life etc.. you get the point! This book is very good!
What other books am I missing?? I have so much catching up to do.
Our incredibly kind and generous neighbor made this onesie. Can you even?? I cannot.
Prepare for me to never shut up about auntie-hood.
And my sister? An absolute hero. No one braver or tougher or more loving than her. And my brother in law? You’ve never seen anyone like him. Generous and open and clear-eyed in pursuit of a better world. The way they love is a privilege to witness.
I’m thinking about every parent & caretaker in the world today. The regular, everyday acts of care that are actually extraordinary. And we are all a part of it.
I still think the world is surprising and good.
In fact, I’ve never been more sure.
I love you.
Love,
Rosamond
Congratulations!! My go tos for new babies are The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton (really all things Sandra Boynton) and Guess How Much I Love You? by Sam McBratney!
Start with board books, ready to be babe-handled and chewed. Boynton offers bright colors and silly rhymes. See Barnyard Dance. ❤️❤️❤️
